Working Through the Pain

“This is an especially hard time because of COVID-19, economic uncertainty, back-to-school anxieties, and the everyday personal challenges anyone may face,” says Leumas Security Services Founder Samuel Griffin. “But I want you to remember that you find greatness within yourself during the hardest times in your life.”

Griffin’s reminder is for everyone, especially security professionals. Many of them are still working shifts of eight to 10 hours, and then work an additional job. Too many of them are still winding down in bars, or developed the habit of releasing tension during Happy Hour before COVID-19 restrictions, and created other problems in their lives. Some of those problems are still with them.

“Early in my career I worked 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., then worked at a nightclub from 10:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m.,” Griffin remembers. “I was working to build my company, which was then called Griffin’s Executive Protection Agency, LLC. That hard work led to my company acquiring security contracts at multiple clubs throughout the Hampton Roads and Tidewater areas of Virginia. But what most people didn’t know about were the sacrifices it took to achieve my goals, physically and in my relationships.

“I know it’s hard, and sometimes you want to give up. Don’t do it. Giving up brings you right back to the starting line.”

He says, “Finish what you start, whether it’s big or small. There may be people around you who don’t support you, or friends, who will turn their backs on you. Push forward! I kept working through the physical and emotional pain, and just when I thought I didn’t have any more strength God pushed me over the fish line.”

Griffin is confident that you can learn to leave your problems at the front door the way he did, and that your reward for working hard “is only a prayer away. Learn from what I went through. Find smart ways to work through your short-term pain for long-term gain.

You can win!”
